Coinciding with the launch of WPI comes the first in a series of free Business Issues papers, entitled Organising the workplace for profit: property options for SMEs. Author Dr Rob Harris said, “The workplace is a significant liability to UK businesses. Too few business leaders truly take a holistic view of the workplace, seeing it a merely bricks and mortar. Such ignorance is not only costing them money, it’s destroying productivity, has a direct impact on staff churn, and cramps a company’s ability to move at the sort of speed required in today’s competitive market.”
The paper also exposes the impact the workplace has on people and productivity and argues that the workplace should be actively used to attract, motivate and retain staff.
WPI is a consortium of business, property and consulting organisations including Arlington Securities Ltd, The BDE Group, the IoD, Olswang, Haywards, CoreNet Global UK and Stonemartin. It challenges attitudes towards the workplace, provoking business leaders to look again at what many assume are fixed, sunk, associated costs such as rent, rates and day-to-day running costs likes cleaning and security.
The paper also exposes the impact the workplace has on people and productivity, and argues that the workplace should be actively used to attract, motivate and retain staff.
